Sorrentinos 2009 On February 1, the Edmonton Baillage held its annual general meeting and enjoyed a wonderful Italian dinner hosted by Chef Grillarding, Sunny Sung, Chef de Table, Carmelo Rago, and Chevalier Host, Neil Wilkinson, at Sorrentinos in downtown Edmonton. Peter Graham reported on the activities of the Baillage for 2008 as well as the plans for 2009. The executive for 2009 remains relatively the same with the addition of David Eayrs as vice-conseillier culinaire. During the dinner, 30 year members, Alec Murray and Bob Brintnell, were presented pins. Hans Voegeli was presented a 20 year pin. The dinner started with herb-crusted rack of lamb, lobster roll and steak and foie gras sandwich accompanied by a 2003 Bellavista Gran Cuvee. That was followed by a very tasty Alberta beef tartare Piedmontese beautifully matched with a 2006 Negro Roero Arneis. Then came a pasta dish, veal agnolottilemon, thyme butter sauce shaved parmigiano-reggiano with a 2006 Cipresso Terra di Nessuno Pigrco The main dish was comprised of a pan seared marinated sablefish with smoked wild prawns, truffle cauliflower puree and crispy polenta served with a 2000 M. Gros Vosne Romanee Clos de Reas. This was followed by organic micro greens and pear salad with crumbled gorgonzola. The dinner finished with a ricotta cheese cake with limone reduction zucchini, olive oil, walnut cake mascarpone creme fraiche Florentine cantucci matched with a 2008 Two Hands Moscato. When all was said and done I thought I would have to fly home from Italy. It was a most memorable evening and a wonderful way to start our 2009 year. Menu (PDF) |
